Shab-e-Barat Mubarak.

Asalamu Alaykum,

As the twilight approaches, we ready ourselves for a night of prayer, of self-examination as it were, all directed at a scaling of the heights of belief. The beginning of the new year in the spiritual realm. Let tonight be one of continuous self progression and of the thought that while this life matters, there is too the hereafter that must not be lost sight of. May we seek forgiveness on this blessed night of Shab-e-Barat and seek blessings for the year that is to be. May Allah (SWT) accept all our Duas and Ibadat. May Allah (SWT) continue to strengthen our Imaan. Ameen. 🙏

…Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Opportunities don’t just happen. Opportunities are what you create. It’s all up to you. When people do well, it’s because of their actions, hard-work, efforts and time. When you are doing well it’s about your achievements, it’s about what you want. I don’t think enough people understand that. Self belief and belief in God; together these are the foundations of positivity. You have to strive towards your goals, dreams and life in general with a positive approach. Every day is a  new day and one should thrive towards each day with a positive attitude. You can run the day rather than the day run you.

  • “That man can have nothing but what he strives for; That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete.” (Quran- An-Najm, 53:39-41)

Know what it is that you want to do in life, consider how you are going to go about doing it; the opportunities that you will pursue and then take action and make it happen. Be absolutely resilient in your determination in achieving your dreams. Having a positive attitude means you are already half-way there. I believe the best motivation comes from within. Always believe in yourself, do your best and place your trust in Allah (SWT). Ultimately, it is Allah (SWT) that rewards us with success. “Wa ma tawfiqi illa billah: success is only through Allah (SWT).” You will reap the rewards of your hard-work, efforts and time, inshaAllah. 🙂

Reminder: Don’t be part of the crowd, always be that person who stands out in the crowd.

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said:

  • “The time for the Morning Prayer is from the arrival of dawn up until sunrise.” (Sahîh Muslim[173])
  • “Offer the Morning Prayer in the light of the morning, for this is greater for your reward.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhî [154])

Recently, I have been trying out some practical things to help stay in a regular routine for daily Fajr prayer. There are days where after a very long and busy working day, I do sometimes need that extra bit of motivation to wake up super early- so that I can pray Fajr on time. I am sure many of you will relate to this.

Well, here I have some very useful practical tips for myself and for all of you to get us out of bed and ready for Fajr prayer. Put them into practise and pray Fajr on time! #TeamFajr

Five Practical Tips to Help Maintain a Daily Fajr Routine:

  1. Download a copy of the Prayer Timetable – Save it on your phone & also print a copy of it and stick it on your Bedroom Door (or anywhere else you find suitable); proper preparation prevents poor performance.
  2. Each day make the intention from within your Heart to pray Fajr – This will allow you to remain disciplined and help you achieve your goal of praying Fajr daily.
  3. Go to sleep early – It will be easier to wake up early and you will wake up feeling fresh for Fajr.
  4. Set a daily alarm – Don’t snooze! There is a very good App called ‘Sleep Cycle’ (available on the App Store for FREE). “It is a bio-alarm clock that analyses your sleep patterns and wakes you when you are in the lightest sleep phase.” (http://www.sleepcycle.com)
  5. Wake up in the right environment – Believe it or not but the way your room looks can affect your ability to wake up early. When you wake up to a clean room, just the sight of it can be energising and make you jump out of bed. Also, I highly recommend switching off your phone when you wake up in the morning to pray.

So, who’s with me on this one? Let me know by using the hash-tag ‘TeamFajr’ in the comments box.

Reminder: The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.

Self Belief and Belief in God- Be a Positive Individual.

Salaams Everyone,

Thank you for stopping by my Blog! I hope you all enjoy reading the Article I have written. Follow my Blog: FaithIsWhereTheHeartIs. Click the ‘Follow’ button.

Today, I am writing about POSITIVITY! I am personally a very positive person, MashaAllah and I always do my best to look on the bright side of things. Everyone has days which are better than other days, but how you deal with such days is what matters. I believe life is full of tests from Allah (SWT) and once we actually understand this, we begin to appreciate life. “Allah (SWT) does not burden any human being with more than he can bear.” (Quran- Al-Baqara, 2:286)

Life is full of challenges and you learn through experiences; I guess a life without challenges would be boring. I have learned some of the most important lessons, been tested to my limits, but still throughout my Imaan and Heart has continued to be strengthened and I have come through feeling blessed. Alhamdulillah. “Verily, with hardship there is relief.” (Quran, 94:6)

An important factor which links in to everything mentioned above is a positive environment. For this you should consider the type of people that you associate yourself with. I personally don’t like negative people and I don’t associate with such people at all. Associate yourself with positive people, those who also believe in you. Surround yourself with people who are also ambitious and who like you are amongst the doers. So, I guess one should choose their friendships very wisely.

The people who matter are the ones that you support every step of the way and who support you every step of the way. These are the important people in your life. I believe sincere friendships are connected through the Heart and are never forgotten. Having sincere people is rare and a true blessing, don’t lose these precious people (be they family or friends). One should be thankful to Allah (SWT) and appreciate these people in your life. Be one to earn one.

Reminder: Don’t hesitate in your actions- have faith in the moment.

Deen and Dunya- Thrive for a Balance.

Asalamu Alaykum Everyone,

Hope you are all well. InshaAllah.

Click the ‘Follow’ button. All comments, discussions and feedback are welcome. Thank you!

Sometimes, it is important to start with the basics in order to understand the core fundamentals properly and practise them correctly. Our starting point is the tafsir of the Quran; here is the basic message of the Quran summarised in one sentence:

  • “to worship Allah (SWT); to please Allah (SWT) through His worship, to please the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) by following his Sunnah, and to please the maklooq (creation) by doing its khidmat.” (Shaykh Ahmed Ali)

The fact is that Deen and Dunya go hand-in-hand. It’s not about choosing one over the other because God does not want you to live a life cut off from this world. God wants you to have a good time in this world. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a struggle to find the balance between Deen and Dunya. The best way to look at it is that you have to make the most of this world to earn Jannah. We aspire to achieve the best in life and we work hard in achieving our dreams. This requires action, hard work, effort and time. But, ultimately it is Allah (SWT) that rewards us with success. “Wa ma tawfiqi illa billah: success is only through Allah (SWT).”

Life is very busy and most of our day is spent with worldly duties such as work, education and family. So, how does one go about thriving for a balance between Deen and Dunya? Well, just remember that everything we do in this world is for the akhira (hereafter) if your intention is right. The 2-3 hours of technically free time we have in a day, we actually have some control over. How about we make the most of that free time? You can use this time productively towards increasing your Imaan and in the remembrance of Allah (SWT); you could recite the Quran, read something that will increase your knowledge, learn and memorise some Surah and Duas. Make a routine of this. You can live in this world and have a good time, and still earn your Jannah. InshaAllah.

Your Character and Piety comes from within your Heart and makes you who you are, and I strongly believe it is your biggest strength in Deen and Dunya. Always remember Education and Religion are two key fundamental things in life that go hand-in-hand and one should aim to continuously progress in both. This life is in preparation for the hereafter, the good deeds we do in this world, they bring with them bonuses in this world and the next world.

Everyday is a blessing. Alhamdulillah.

Reminder: One should never lose sight of the hereafter.

Islam, Culture, and Tradition – Religion should come first, always.

Salaams Everyone,

Sometimes, it is important to start with the basics in order to understand the core fundamentals properly and practice them correctly.

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him) as saying:

  • “The piety is here”, (and while saying so) he pointed towards his chest thrice.

Here’s some food for thought… I often see that many of today’s Muslim society strive towards the Western culture. I strongly believe that upbringing somewhat determines this. However, just as one’s upbringing is extremely important, I also believe it is extremely important for the youngsters of today to have a proper understanding of the Quran. It is okay to be taught the Quran in Arabic, but taking into account that most people are taught only to read the Quran in Arabic and their first language is English. It is therefore important that they are taught the meaning of the words of the Quran in English. This will allow them to understand what Allah (SWT) has commanded in the Holy book and it would make them more God fearing. For this to occur, in my opinion- the old methods and techniques still used in many Islamic Education Centres and Mosques need to be re-evaluated and the youngsters of today need to be guided.

I will give you a real example: My mum works in a prestigious Islamic Education Centre and she has set an amazing example and has implemented more modern techniques; those which meet the needs of today’s society and are in accordance with the teachings of Islam. She has taught the entire Islamic and Quranic studies course to over a hundred young girls, this includes: Tajweed (elocution- referring to the rules governing pronunciation during recitation of the Quran), translation and interpretation of the Quran, Fiqh studies and Hadith studies. Furthermore, she teaches just as many adults and elders who want to correct their Tajweed and so many of these students have already successfully completed recitation of the Quran with full Tajweed, mashaAllah. I have given this example to illustrate the points I mentioned earlier and to show that with correct teachings and correct methods/techniques, individuals of today’s society can learn, gain a sound knowledge of and inshaAllah practice Islam; a peaceful and obedient religion properly.

Whilst in this article I have brought to your attention that many of today’s society is striving towards the Western culture, there are also other issues that today’s society is facing. Islam is very widespread all over the World and every country has its own culture and traditions. There are so many global issues to do with Education, Work, Marriage, and Attire that affect both Muslim Women and Muslim Men. One must always remember that it is not religion that is the basis of these problems, but it is culture and traditions.

The importance of Education is a none disputable matter. Education is the knowledge of putting one’s potentials to maximum use. Islam attaches great importance to knowledge and Education. When the Quran began to be revealed, the first word of its first verse was ‘Iqra’ that is, read. Allah (SWT) says, “Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists). He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not.” (Quran, 96:1-5). Education is thus the starting point of every human activity. Allah (SWT) created man and provided him with the tools for acquiring knowledge, namely hearing, sight and wisdom. Allah (SWT) says, “And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allah).” (Quran, 16:78). A knowledgeable person is accorded great respect in many Prophetic narrations. Due to the importance of knowledge, Allah (SWT) commanded His Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him) to seek more of it. Allah (SWT) says, “And say: “My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.” (Quran, 20:114).The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) made seeking knowledge an obligation upon every Muslim. Furthermore, the Prophet (PBUH) said that seeking knowledge is a way leading to Paradise. He said, “Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a path to Paradise easy for him.” (Hadith: Al-Bukhaari). So, these countries who do not allow for girls and women to gain an education, to work, to travel etc – on what basis do they make this decision?  You see my point.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Modesty is part of Faith, and that part of Faith must come from within the Heart.” So, those individuals who cover their hair with a Hijab, yet wear figure hugging tops and tight jeans/trousers – where is the modesty in that? Not forgetting the caked on makeup and ‘Camel Hump’ Hijab styles – is that a measure of their religiousness? What is it to other people if a woman wears a Hijab? /No Hijab? If a man has a Beard? /No Beard? I’m sorry, but why does this even matter? The fact is that Hijab is not a measure of a woman’s religiousness and piety, nor is the Beard a measure of a man’s religiousness and piety. It is our personality, our character, our piety, our actions and belief within our Heart that makes us who we are. Allah (SWT) always knows what is in your Heart. Furthermore, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mentioned, “A Woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, for her rank, for her beauty, and for her religion and character. So marry the one who is best in the religion and character, and prosper.” (Hadith: Bukhari and Muslim).  Take reservation in speech. Raising one’s voice and using disgusting language in venting anger simply shows one lacks the ability to contain it and it is exposing the ego within. A sharp tongue, just as a sharp knife, it can slice the best of relationships. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “A strong person is not the person who throws his adversaries to the ground. A strong person is the person who contains himself when he is angry.” (Hadith: Saheeh al-Bukhari).

In conclusion, to tackle such issues, it is important to go about it in the correct manner. Religion comes first. Allah (SWT) says, “Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and have completed My blessing upon you, and chosen Islam as Deen (religion and way of life for you).” (Quran- Al-Ma’idah, 5:3). I believe that when people within a local community start to work together with the younger generation, listen to each other and compromise (within reason); they can tackle any issue that they are faced with. It’s all about having a positive attitude and taking action towards dealing with important issues properly. But, first of all people should be willing to reach out to the society. What better place to start than the Islamic Education Centres and Mosques, for these are the places which form the foundations of a Muslim society. I respect the old, traditional methods and techniques which have been used for many years. I was taught the Quran via the traditional methods and I have a lot of respect for not only those involved in teaching me the Quran, but also for the institution (my local Mosque) that I attended. However, ten/fifteen years on, society has changed and we need to work with this rather than against it. Therefore, by Islamic Education Centres and Mosques adapting the traditional teaching methods and taking a more modern approach to the teaching methods/techniques, it will allow for a better understanding. Furthermore, in my opinion- as well as this benefiting today’s society, it will also allow us to be better prepared for future generations too.

Reminder: Always remember Education and Religion are two key fundamental things in life that go hand-in-hand and one should aim to continuously progress in both. This life is in preparation for the hereafter, the good deeds we do in this world, they bring with them bonuses in this world and the next world.

Hajj 2014 – The Day of Arafat…

Asalamu Alaykum Everyone,

Hope you are all well. Eid Mubarak in advance! I hope you all have a blessed Eid with your family, inshaAllah. For me personally, the best part of Eid is having that Eid Breakfast with my family when my Dad and Brother’s have come home after praying Eid Namaaz (Prayer).

Thank you for stopping by my Blog! I hope you all enjoy reading the Article I have written. Follow my Blog: FaithIsWhereTheHeartIs – Type in your E-mail address & Click the ‘Follow’ button.

  • “In it are clear signs (such as) the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And (due) to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves – then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.” (Quran- Ali Imran, 3:97)

We are in the beautiful and blessed month of Dhul Hijja, the 12th month according to the Islamic year. Hajj (Pilgrimage) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Hajj is obligated by Allah (SWT) upon every Muslim who is physically and financially capable and is obligatory only once during the lifetime of a Muslim. Hajj is performed during the first ten days of Dhul Hijja. Today is the most significant day in the Islamic calendar; it is The Day of Arafat. The Day of Arafat is on the 9th Dhul Hijja, this is the second day of Hajj and the day before Eid –al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice).

One has to remember that The Day of Arafat is a significant day for every Muslim. It is significant in many aspects for the Hajj Pilgrims as they travel from Mina to Arafat and it is also significant for the Muslims who are not performing Hajj. The Hajj Pilgrims will be travelling from Mina to Arafat (the place near Makkah, Saudi Arab – where the Mount Arafat is located). Mount Arafat, also known as Jabal-e-Rahmat (Mountain of Mercy) is the place where the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) stood and delivered his last, farewell sermon on 10th Hijri (632 AD); in accordance with the Islamic calendar.

The following verse of the Quran was revealed upon Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on the day of Arafat. Therefore, this is the day when Islam has been fulfilled and it has been chosen as the religion of mankind of all time by Allah (SWT), the Almighty.

  • Allah (SWT) says, “Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and have completed My blessing upon you, and chosen Islam as Deen (religion and way of life for you).” (Quran- Al-Ma’idah, 5:3)

Hajj is a journey of a life time and the submission to Allah (SWT); submission with the purest of Heart and intentions. It requires physical, mental and spiritual strength. Allah (SWT) always knows what is in your Heart. Given that an individuals’ Hajj is accepted by Allah (SWT), one will return from Hajj completely sinless as a new-born baby, inshaAllah. The reward of Hajj Mabroor (an accepted Hajj) is Jannah (Paradise). SubhanAllah!

  • Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said,He who performs Hajj seeking Allah’s pleasure and avoids all lewdness and sins (therein) will return after Hajj free from all sins, just as he was on the day his mother gave birth to him.” (Hadith- Al-Bukhaari and Muslim)

After sunset today, every Muslim from all around the World will be celebrating Eid-al-Adha. Let us take this opportunity to reflect upon the meaning of Eid-al-Adha. Let us remember the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham. The following verse of the Quran describes Prophet Abraham:

  • “Surely Abraham was an example, obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not of the polytheists. He was grateful for Our bounties. We chose him and guided him unto a right path. We gave him good in this world, and in the next he will most surely be among the righteous.” (Quran- An-Nahl, 16:120-121)

One of Prophet Abraham’s main trials was to face the command of Allah (SWT) to kill his only son. Upon hearing this command, he prepared to submit to Allah’s Will. When he was all prepared to do it, Allah (SWT) revealed to him that his “sacrifice” had already been fulfilled. He had shown that his love for his Lord superseded all others; that he would lay down his own life or the lives of those dear to him in order to submit to God.

“Here I am before You, my Lord, as a slave.” I am preparing for Umrah, inshaAllah. I pray that Allah (SWT) continues to keep me protected and guided on the righteous path. I pray that with the Will of Allah (SWT), I am amongst those individuals who go on this journey of a life time very soon and that I perform Umrah and Hajj for the sake of Allah (SWT), inshaAllah. Ameen Summa Ameen.

Which of you lovely people has performed Umrah/ Hajj? It would be lovely to hear about your experiences.

Jummah Mubarak from the UK. 🙂

Reminder: There are many virtues of The Day of Arafat- take the opportunity of this blessed day to seek Mercy, to seek Forgiveness, and to seek Freedom from the Hell Fire.

Marriage: A topic that a lot of you will probably relate to.

Asalamu Alaykum Everyone,

Hope you are all well! I hope you all find the Article that I have written to be an interesting read, inshaAllah. Click the ‘Follow’ button. All comments, discussions and feedback are welcome. Thank you!

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) mentioned:

  • “A Woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, for her rank, for her beauty, and for her religion and character. So marry the one who is best in the religion and character, and prosper.” (Hadith: Bukhari and Muslim)

Marriage: A topic that a lot of you will probably relate to. In my opinion, the majority of today’s society is very liberal with regards to how they go about marriage, something that I don’t agree with. I believe there is nothing wrong in choosing your own partner, but it is how you go about it that matters. It will be interesting to hear your views?

I don’t believe in pre-marital relationship and dating. Islam has given me the freedom to choose my own partner. My Parents have given me the freedom to choose my own partner. But, there are boundaries and it is up to the individual with regards to how one goes about it. I don’t agree with pre-marital relationships due to my beliefs, morals, and values. My Faith is a big part of my life, Alhamdulillah. Everyone is different. How you go about it is up to you as an individual and what values you hold.

Everywhere you go, you see so many Muslims of today’s society in pre-marital relationships. They seem to feel so proud that they have a boyfriend/ girlfriend. They are so involved in the western culture and I wonder if some of them have any self-respect, and most of all whether their priority is marriage. You even see some individuals date one person and then if that doesn’t work out; they date another and so on. Surely, if the priority is marriage then why would one go about dating, going on holiday together before marriage, and even living together before marriage? In my opinion these individuals choose to abuse the freedom. Islam has given freedom of choice to those who want to get married. The mutual choice of the would-be-spouses is given the highest consideration: “do not prevent them from marrying their chosen husband/wife when they agree between themselves in a lawful manner.” (Quran, 2:232)

The intention and decision to get married doesn’t just come out of nowhere for anyone. It is an informed and considered decision. A decision which I believe can be informed without the need of liberal elements. When you have a choice then I believe it’s important to tell your Parents. In my opinion, the process of marriage is a healthy balance between freedom of choice of the would-be-spouses and consideration of the opinions and the consent of the Parents. I believe compatibility between the would-be-spouses is very important, but also compatibility between the two families of those individuals is just as important. I have so much respect for guys who go about marriage (Rishteh) proposals the proper way.  “Women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity.” (Quran, 24:26)

Reminder: Your Character and Piety comes from within your Heart and makes you who you are, and I strongly believe it is your biggest strength in Deen and Dunya.
